A Scentsy Wax Bar is a block of scented wax with 8 break-apart sections. Unlike traditional candles, Scentsy Bars do not require a flame to release fragrance. The wax bars are designed to melt in a Scentsy warmer, which gently heats the wax with a lightbulb to warm the wax to the ideal temperature for fragrance diffusion.

The 8 individual sections allow Scentsy Bar fragrances to be enjoyed over a long period of time. Each bar provides more than 80 hours of fragrance. As each section melts away, a new section can be moved to the top of the Scentsy warmer. This extended design sets Scentsy Bars apart from other wax melts.

Scentsy uses both synthetic and naturally derived fragrance oils to achieve the highest quality and longest-lasting bar.

Synthetic oils are used for several reasons, including:

- When using natural oils results in unrestrained use of limited or endangered natural resources.

- When it isn’t possible to derive the natural oils from nature. For example, synthetic oil is necessary to reproduce lily of the valley because fragrance cannot be extracted from this flower through typical extraction methods.

- When it is cost prohibitive to acquire natural oils and would preclude Scentsy from offering particular fragrances without increasing the price for customers.

The wax used to create Scentsy Bars is a custom, high-quality paraffin wax blend. This specialty wax was carefully designed and selected for the Scentsy system based on several key properties:

- Scent loading ability - This blend has an optimal capacity to absorb and hold fragrance oils, ensuring bars release aroma efficiently when warmed. The wax readily takes up and retains high concentrations of fragrance.

- Melting point - The wax has an ideal melting point that allows the bars to liquify at the low temperatures used in Scentsy warmers. This allows the wax to melt and pool around the warmer dish, maximizing fragrance dispersal.

- Firmness - This blend remains firm at room temperature but melts at low heat. The bars can be easily snapped apart but retain their shape when warming in the Scentsy system. The wax bars are rigid enough for safe handling yet melt readily when warmed.

The combination of these properties in the custom paraffin wax makes it perfectly suited for use in Scentsy Bars. The wax was carefully engineered to deliver an optimal fragrance experience when used in the Scentsy system.

Why Not Soy or Vegetable Wax?

Soy- or vegetable-based waxes can produce a quality wicked candle, but they are not optimal for wickless candles like Scentsy Bars.

Wicked candles require a wax with a low melting point so that the heat of the flame easily melts the wax to release fragrance. Soy and vegetable waxes have lower melting points than paraffin wax, making them a good choice for wicked candles.

However, wickless candles like Scentsy Bars rely on a warming plate to slowly melt the wax rather than a flame. For even warming and fragrance release, Scentsy Bars need a wax blend with a higher melting point. Soy or vegetable waxes would melt too quickly on Scentsy warmers, resulting in uneven fragrance delivery.

The custom paraffin wax blend used in Scentsy Bars was specially formulated to have the right melting point and viscosity for optimal fragrance delivery in a wickless system. The Scentsy wax provides a more controlled melt and even fragrance release not achievable with lower-melt soy or vegetable waxes.

Are Scentsy Bars Safe?

Scentsy Bars are safer than traditional wicked candles for a few key reasons. Because Scentsy Bars do not have a wick, there is no open flame. The wax is warmed gently rather than burned, so no smoke is produced. Without smoke, there is no release of pollutants or harmful chemicals into the air.

Additionally, Scentsy Bars contain no lead, avoiding another key toxin released by burned wick candles. The lead core of traditional wicks vaporizes when the candle burns, releasing lead particles into the air. With no wick and no flame, Scentsy Bars contain zero lead.

By warming rather than burning the wax, Scentsy Bars create no soot residue. Soot is a byproduct of incomplete combustion and builds up on surfaces near burning candles. Scenty's wickless, flameless system prevents soot from developing.

Do Scentsy Bars Contain Phthalates?

Scentsy Bars do not contain or release harmful phthalates. A small percentage of Scentsy Bar fragrances contain extremely low levels of non-harmful diethyl phthalate (DEP), commonly used in fragrances to help blend ingredients and to make fragrances last longer. DEP is thoroughly tested and is consistently regarded as safe for use in fragrance by several government bodies including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the European Union Scientific Committee on Consumer Products (SCCP). Scentsy follows all safety standards regulating the use of DEP set by the International Fragrance Association (IFRA).

Fragrance Ingredient Safety

Scentsy prioritizes safety when formulating fragrances. All fragrances are created according to the standards set by the International Fragrance Association (IFRA). IFRA regularly evaluates fragrance ingredients for safety based on the latest independent, peer-reviewed science. They establish usage standards that are followed by Scentsy and other fragrance houses to ensure the safe use of fragrance materials in products.

In addition, the Research Institute for Fragrance Materials (RIFM) assesses the safety of fragrance ingredients. Their findings allow IFRA to set safe use levels for fragrance materials. RIFM's safety assessments are recognized worldwide for their scientific rigor.

By adhering to IFRA guidelines and only using fragrance ingredients that have been evaluated for safety by RIFM, Scentsy ensures its fragrances meet the highest standards for safe use. Customers can feel confident knowing Scentsy Bars and other scented products contain thoroughly tested fragrance ingredients.

Viewing Fragrance Ingredients

We provide ingredients for many our Scentsy Bars (and other relevant fragrance products) on product pages on your Personal Website (PWS). We’re working to provide this information for all products. Customers can view fragrance ingredients on a consultant's website rather than just on Scentsy's main website. This allows customers to easily see ingredients while shopping. Scentsy aims to have fragrance ingredients visible for every product but it's an ongoing process to make that available across the entire catalog.

No Harmful Ingredients

Scentsy Bars and fragrance oils are carefully formulated and tested to be free of ingredients that may cause concern for some customers. Specifically, Scentsy Bars do not contain any of the following:

- Nut oils - Such as peanut, almond, or coconut oils. This avoids potential issues for those with nut allergies.

- Mineral oils - Such as petroleum-based oils. Scentsy avoids mineral oils because they can produce lung inflammation and other health issues when inhaled.

- Bisphenol A (BPA) - An industrial chemical used to make some plastics and resins. BPA is avoided due to potential hormone disruption effects.

- Gluten - A group of proteins found in grains like wheat, barley, and rye. Gluten is avoided for those with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity.

- Lead - A heavy metal used in some manufacturing processes. Lead is toxic, especially to children, and is avoided by Scentsy.

- Egg - Raw or cooked eggs or egg derivatives. Avoided for those with egg allergies.

- Formaldehyde - A preservative sometimes used in cosmetics. Formaldehyde is a known human carcinogen and not used by Scentsy.

By carefully screening all ingredients and finished products, Scentsy can confidently state that Bars and fragrances are free of these concerning substances. Customers can enjoy Scentsy products knowing they align with their health needs and preferences.
